This was my third trip with Island Fishing Mauritius, and what an adventure it was!

I planned a GT expedition to track down these creatures, improve my skills, and learn.

This time, Ameer teamed me up with Paul (an experienced captain) and Olivier (an experienced sports fisherman), who knew just where to find the GTs! Our quest led us offshore to some interesting reefs, and then on to several new locations where we found them.

A special thank you to Olivier for coaching me on my technique! As the trip went on, I was able to improve my casting and popping skills. It was a real test of endurance in the tropical heat, but I got to see 25-35kg GTs first-hand, and improved my skills.

Finally, the waters around East Mauritius are changeable, and big swells can suddenly develop offshore, so bring a comfortable sports life jacket that you can cast in! It’s always best to be safe at sea :)

Previous trips were November 2024, where I landed a Wahoo after Tropical Cyclone Bheki (again, professional guys, knowledgeable, and well equipped)
